Assigning location section
Location sections: Organizing your stock
Introduction: What are location sections?
Location sections are digital labels you can create for places in your warehouse. Think of aisles, trolleys and racks. This way the system knows exactly where each product is stored.
Why should you use location sections?
With location sections you can:
- Quickly find products in your warehouse
- Tell employees where they can pick something up
- Keep track of which products are where
- Spend less time searching
How do location sections work?
Step 1: Determine how detailed you want to work
Before you start, first think about how large your stock usually is. This helps you decide how specific to make your locations.
For large batches:
- Aisle + Trolley is enough
- Example: A01, A02, A03
- A = The aisle where you walk
- 01 = The number of the trolley
For smaller batches:
- Add the layer on the trolley
- Example: A02-03
- A = The aisle where you walk
- 02 = The number of the trolley
- 03 = The layer on the trolley (from bottom to top)
For very small batches:
- Also add the compartment on the layer
- Example: A02-03-01
- A = The aisle where you walk
- 02 = The number of the trolley
- 03 = The layer on the trolley
- 01 = The compartment on that layer
Note: The more specific you work, the harder it becomes when you later get larger batches. You then have to merge locations to make room.
Extra option - Section groups: You can also set aisles (like Aisle A) as a main group and divide your trolleys under it. This makes it clearer.
Step 2: Creating location sections
- Go to "Check in"
- Click on "(Management) Per section"
- Click on "New"
- Enter a name (this becomes your location code, e.g., A01)
- Click on "Save"
Step 3: Printing labels
- Click on the location code you just created
- Click on "Print"
- Click on "View & Print"
- The label is printed (default on A4 paper, but with a label printer automatically as a small label)
Step 4: Booking products to a location
This is how you put products on a location:
- First scan the barcode of the location (e.g., the sticker on trolley A01)
- Then scan the products you want to store there
- Done! The system now knows that these products are in that place
Step 5: Distribution from a location (optional)
You can also prepare orders directly from a location:
- Go to the "Check in" tile
- Leave the location field empty
- Click on "Overview"
- Scan the barcode of the location
- The shipping labels for that location come out of your printer
Step 6: Moving products to another location
Want to move items from place A to place B?
- Scan the new location where you want to move the products (e.g., B05)
- Scan the products you want to move
- The system removes the products from the old location and puts them in the new one
- Now also physically bring the products to the new place
Extra tip: Printing labels instead of A4
By default, the system prints barcodes in A4 format. Want small labels?
- Go to "Admin"
- Click on "(System) Configuration"
- Go to "Logistics"
- Click on "Sections"
- Uncheck the box at "PDF"
- From now on your system prints small labels instead of large A4 sheets
